John King (3-1) retired Andrew McCutchen with the tying run on second in the 10th to pick up the victory for the Cardinals, who improved to 16-12 in one-run games this season after going 17-26 in tight contests a year ago. St. Louis starter Andre Pallante worked a career-best seven innings to give the Cardinals' overextended bullpen a little bit of a breather.
